Description

The large Nalbari pizza board is a round disc of mango wood, 46cm across and 2cm thick, with a flat handle carrying the whole board to 59cm. The face is built from strips set in a herringbone, and the run of the grain reverses across each band, which is where the light and dark in it come from. A hole through the handle takes a narrow tan tie. It weighs 2.125kg.

At 46cm across the face serves several people from the middle of a table, laid with mezze, antipasti or a single large flatbread. The handle gives somewhere to hold when the board is carried full, and it turns on the spot once it is down. Stood alongside the small, the difference between the two faces shows: 46cm against 32cm.

The wood is mango throughout, food safe, with a natural finish. The pieces are cut and fitted so the colour changes band by band, and that variation is the timber itself rather than anything applied to it. Mango is grown for fruit first, harvested over years, and cut for timber only once the tree has stopped bearing, which gives the growers a second income from the same tree. Nalbari also makes this board in a small with a 32cm face, three chopping boards and a set of coasters.
