Description
Nala is a black terracotta plant pot with the shape of a traditional vessel: a rounded belly, a gently pinched neck and a rim that flares outwards, edged with a band of black. The body is left as speckled, sandy-textured clay, and broad strokes of black paint sweep across it in loose, leaf-like shapes. Each pot is decorated by hand, so no two carry quite the same marks, and the one you receive will be its own. It is made from 100% terracotta, measures 14.5cm across and 14.5cm tall, and weighs 1.35KG, which gives it a reassuring weight on a shelf or table.
At this size it suits a small houseplant: a succulent, a young fern, a trailing pothos or a few rooted cuttings. We like it on a side table beside a reading chair, on an open shelf among books and other ceramics, or on a windowsill where the light picks out the texture of the clay. Because it is as tall as it is wide, it sits comfortably at eye level on a bookcase and holds its own in a group of pots of different heights. The bold black marks work well with pale wood, rattan and woven furniture, and against plain walls in a living room, hallway or study.
Terracotta is fired clay and naturally porous, so we would keep your plant in its plastic nursery pot and stand that inside the terracotta pot, lifting it out to water. The hand-painted decoration brings small variations in the strokes and the speckle from one pot to the next, and we see that as part of its character rather than a flaw. For a relaxed arrangement, group it with a plain black pot and a tall dried stem, such as pampas grass, so the painted shapes stay the focus. The styling props shown are not included.

Frequently Asked
What material is the Nala plant pot?
It is made from 100% terracotta, a fired clay, and the black decoration is painted on by hand, so each pot carries its own marks.
How big is it?
It measures 14.5cm across and 14.5cm tall, a good size for a small houseplant, a succulent or a few cuttings on a shelf or windowsill.
Will every pot look the same?
No. Each piece is decorated by hand, so the brushstrokes and the speckle vary a little from pot to pot, and yours will be unique.
How much does it weigh?
It weighs 1.35KG, which gives it a solid, substantial feel on a side table, a bookcase or an open shelf.
What colour is it?
It is black: the flared rim is edged in black, and broad hand-painted black strokes sweep across the speckled clay of the body.
