Description

The Nadee is a tapered drum woven from banana fibre and lined pale on the inside. Pale stitched threads run vertically at close intervals with the fibre passing horizontally between them, so the surface reads as a fine ribbed grid, the grey brown of the leaf showing through the paler stitching. This is the large: 21.5cm tall and 40.5cm across, with a gentler taper than the smaller sizes.

Forty centimetres is floor lamp width. On an ordinary side table it overhangs the surface; on a floor lamp base over a metre tall it is in proportion with the column, and at that size the weave stops being a detail and becomes the surface you see from across the room. Lit, the fine ribbing shows right across a much larger face than the smaller sizes offer. At 21.5cm deep it hides the lampholder from a seated eye. It weighs 0.53kg.

Banana leaves are processed into a fibre and woven into a fabric before the shade is stitched by hand around a metal frame, so the run of the fibre and the spacing of the stitching differ from shade to shade. The Nadee range runs from small to extra large. No bulb, base or fitting is included.

Frequently Asked

Is the large too big for a table lamp?

For most, yes. At 40.5cm across it overhangs an ordinary side table. It is the size for a floor lamp or a ceiling pendant.

Does the weave show when it is lit?

Yes, and more than on the smaller sizes, because there is a much larger face for the ribbing to run across.

Will it hide the lampholder?

At 21.5cm deep, yes, from anyone sitting down.

How do I care for it?

Handle it by the fitting rather than the fabric, and lift dust off the weave with a soft brush or a microfibre cloth.
