Description

A shallow serving bowl carved from a single piece of mango wood, 45cm across at its widest and 15.3cm from front to back. A flat lug handle runs out from each end at rim height and tapers to a squared tip. The rim rises and falls in a soft wave rather than sitting level, the hollow is scooped rather than turned, and the whole bowl stands 7.5cm tall.

The bowl is long and low. It suits bread torn for the table, seasonal fruit, or anything else passed round rather than plated. A handle at each end means it can be lifted and carried while it is full, one hand on each side. At 45cm it sits along the length of a dining table rather than across it, and at 7.5cm tall it leaves the sightline clear for whoever is opposite.

The wood is mango, sustainably sourced and hand carved, so the grain and the tone come through differently on every bowl and the wave of the rim is never twice the same. The Naashta serving bowl is made in two sizes and this is the larger of them.
