Description

Our Myrna pedestal bowl is a wide, shallow stoneware bowl raised on a broad cylindrical foot, so whatever it holds sits up off the table where it can be seen. It measures 29cm across and 15cm tall, which makes it a generous centrepiece rather than an everyday cereal bowl. The inside carries a multicoloured pattern: concentric bands ring a star-shaped centre, small bell-shaped buds sit on fine stems between them, and broad leaves with slender veins circle the outer edge, with tiny dots scattered across the gaps. The outside of the bowl and the foot are finished in one plain colour, so the decoration is kept for the top, where you look down into it.

It is approved for food, so it can go to the table full: fruit in the middle of a kitchen table, warm bread rolls at a dinner party, a salad for a long Sunday lunch, or a heap of clementines through the winter. The raised foot gives it presence on a dining table or a sideboard, and it suits anyone who likes serving pieces that carry a pattern rather than stay plain. Between meals it works as a decorative bowl on a console table or a deep windowsill, left empty so the pattern shows, or holding keys and post in a hallway.
