Moto Round Wall Mirror - Antique Brass

The Moto is a round wall mirror 49cm across, cast in aluminium and finished in antique brass. The frame is broad: the glass in the middle takes up about two thirds of the overall diameter, so the mirror reads as a disc set inside a wide ring. That ring is worked all over in fine ridges running outward from the glass to the rim, close together and slightly irregular, and the outer edge wavers rather than holding a true circle.

At 49cm this is a small round mirror, one to hang on its own over a console, a chest of drawers or a basin rather than one to fill a wall. The glass is plain and clear rather than antiqued, so it gives a true reflection. The ridges on the frame catch the light from whichever side a room is lit and the brass warms under a lamp, which is what makes the mirror read from across a room at this size.

The frame is cast aluminium and the face is glass. Each one is sand cast: molten metal is poured into a sand mould, which leaves a subtly textured surface and small organic imperfections, and the antique brass finish goes on last. No two frames are the same, and the ridges bunch and skip differently around every one.

How big is it?

49cm across and 2cm deep.

Is the glass antiqued?

No. It is a plain clear mirror, and the character is all in the frame.

How wide is the frame?

Broad. The glass takes up about two thirds of the overall diameter, so the ring around it is deep.

Will every frame look the same?

No. Each one is sand cast, which leaves its own surface texture and small imperfections, so the ridges run differently around every mirror.

How do I look after it?

Go over it regularly with a microfibre cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from both the glass and the frame.
