Description
Morag is a round stoneware vase with a full, rounded body that narrows to a short, sturdy foot, giving it the outline of a mushroom. The white glaze is pitted and speckled across the body, and towards the base it breaks into streaks that reveal the bare stoneware, so the surface looks almost weathered. It stands 19cm tall and 17cm across, a compact size: large enough to hold its own on a shelf, small enough for a windowsill or the end of a mantelpiece. At 1KG it feels solid in the hand.
We would put it where it can be seen at close range, because the glaze rewards a second look. A deep windowsill, a bookshelf, a sideboard or a bedside table all suit its size, and the narrow mouth gathers a few stems into a loose, airy bunch rather than a full bouquet. It looks just as finished standing empty, so it works as an ornament on a hallway console or a desk in the weeks without flowers. The white keeps it easy to place in a pale, natural scheme, and it sits well beside wood, linen, marble and other ceramics. It also makes a considered gift for a first home or for anyone who likes textured pottery.
The vase is made entirely of stoneware. Stoneware is fired at a high temperature, which makes it dense and hard-wearing. The glaze is what gives this vase its character, and because of the nature of the glaze the colour can vary from piece to piece, so yours may differ a little from the next. We see that as part of its appeal. For styling, give it a spot of its own or group it with one taller and one lower object in a similar soft finish, and keep the stems short and light so the rounded body stays the focus.

How big is the vase?
It stands 19cm tall and measures 17cm across, a compact size for a shelf, a windowsill, a mantelpiece or a bedside table.
How heavy is it?
It weighs 1KG, so it feels solid and substantial in the hand for a vase of this compact size.

Not exactly. The maker notes that, due to the nature of the glaze, colour variations may occur, so yours may differ slightly from the next.
