Description

A pair of ceramic mugs, each 10cm tall and 9cm across, holding 300ml. The body is close to straight-sided and draws in a little towards the foot, and it is cut in deep vertical flutes that run from below the rim down to the base, leaving a plain smooth band at the top. The glaze is pewter: a grey-green that pools dark in the flutes and thins to a paler, drier grey on the ridges and along the rim. The handle is a plain loop and carries no flutes.

300ml is a standard mug rather than an oversized one, made for everyday use. The flutes give the fingers something to sit into. The range runs in deep blue and in natural as well as this pewter, and the form is the same in all three.

The mugs are ceramic. The glaze varies with the firing, so the depth of the pewter shifts from one mug to the next: the pooling in the flutes and the thin line along the rim will not be the same on both. Two mugs come in the set.
