Description

This small stoneware cup holds 110ml and stands 7cm tall and 6cm across, with a chunky loop handle and a scatter of handpainted flowers over a glossy green body. A plain, speckled band runs around the base where the green stops, which gives the cup a soft, homemade look. At 0.15KG it is light to lift, and its size makes it a cup for a child's drink or a grown-up's espresso rather than a mug for a long pot of tea.

It belongs to our kids tableware range, and the 110ml capacity suits a small pour of milk, water or juice at breakfast or teatime, the right amount for small appetites. The chunky loop handle gives little fingers something to hold, and the compact shape sits comfortably on a child's place setting. It also makes a cheerful espresso cup for the grown-ups, a tiny cup for a pretend tea party, or a little pot for a dip or a few berries on a snack plate.

The cup is made entirely of stoneware and painted by hand, so the flowers fall in slightly different places from one cup to the next. Stoneware is dense and sturdy, and it holds warmth well. The maker rates it for the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so it goes straight in the dishwasher after supper, can warm a splash of milk in the microwave and can go in the oven as well. For the table, pair the green with plain white plates and let the flowers do the talking, or line a few cups along a kitchen shelf between meals, where the handpainted pattern earns its place as decoration.
