Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang grid faceplate is an 87.5mm square powder-coated steel plate designed for use with the Metalclad modular grid system. The faceplate accepts one GDF001F grid mounting frame (sold separately), allowing a single switch, socket or accessory module to be fitted within a metalclad installation. The powder-coated silver-grey finish matches the wider Metalclad range.

Intended for industrial, commercial and garage installations where exposed steel accessories are preferred over plastic faceplates, the metalclad grid system uses separate faceplate and mounting frame components to allow modules to be swapped or reconfigured without replacing the entire assembly. The faceplate sits 3.5mm proud of the wall when fitted and carries an IP20 rating for internal dry locations.

The construction is premium-grade steel with a powder-coated finish that resists chipping and provides a harder-wearing surface than painted alternatives. The 87.5mm square footprint fits standard metalclad back boxes and the two screw holes at top and bottom accept M3.5 fixings. Knightsbridge backs this component with a 25-year warranty, reflecting the expected lifespan in industrial and commercial environments.

Frequently Asked

What is the Metalclad grid system?

The Metalclad grid system uses separate faceplates and mounting frames. This faceplate accepts one GDF001F mounting frame, which in turn accepts one modular grid component (switch, socket, or accessory). This allows modules to be changed without replacing the entire faceplate.

Can this be used with standard grid modules?

No. This faceplate is specifically for the Metalclad grid system and requires the GDF001F mounting frame (sold separately). It is not compatible with standard domestic grid systems or screwless grid ranges.

What is the IP rating and where can it be installed?

The faceplate carries an IP20 rating, meaning it is suitable for internal dry locations only. It is not rated for outdoor use or damp environments such as bathrooms.

What back box depth is required?

The faceplate itself projects only 3.5mm from the wall. The required back box depth depends on the specific grid module being installed — see the specification for the chosen module and mounting frame combination.
