Description

The Knightsbridge MC6 is a metal clad CAT6a RJ45 network outlet housed in a powder-coated grey SPCC steel enclosure with an integrated back box. The single shuttered RJ45 socket accepts unshielded twisted pair cabling terminated to an IDC connector behind the faceplate, supporting 10Gbps data transmission over distances up to 100m at 500MHz bandwidth.

Designed for commercial, industrial and utility installations where surface-mount network points are needed on solid walls, concrete surfaces or metal framework, the outlet ships as a complete unit with the back box pre-fitted to the steel faceplate. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor environments including offices, retail stockrooms, warehouses and plant rooms. The earth terminal on the steel enclosure provides continuity through the installation for grounded systems.

The powder-coated grey finish provides abrasion resistance and blends neutrally against light-grey or white commercial wall surfaces. The outlet conforms to ANSI/TIA/EIA 568B.2-10 for CAT6a performance and accepts 16-20 AWG wire gauges on the IDC termination. The unit operates across -10°C to 60°C, covering unheated storage spaces and server rooms with active cooling. Insulation resistance measures below 500mΩ at 100V DC, and the socket withstands 1000V DC / 700V AC RMS test voltage for one minute.

Backward compatibility with CAT6 and CAT5e cabling means the outlet can be installed as a future-proofed socket on existing lower-spec runs, though actual throughput will be limited by the installed cable category. The shuttered RJ45 port keeps dust and debris out of the socket when no cable is plugged in, reducing contamination in industrial or dusty environments.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between CAT6a and CAT6?

CAT6a supports 10Gbps over 100m at 500MHz, while CAT6 supports 10Gbps only over shorter distances (up to 55m) at 250MHz. CAT6a also has better crosstalk suppression. This outlet is rated for full CAT6a performance when used with certified CAT6a cabling.

Does the back box come included?

Yes. The steel back box is integrated with the faceplate and ships as a single assembled unit. No separate back box needs to be ordered or fitted.

Can this be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor environments only. For outdoor or damp locations, a higher IP-rated enclosure would be required.

How is the cable terminated?

The outlet uses IDC (insulation displacement contact) termination behind the faceplate. The cable cores are punched down into the IDC connector using a punch-down tool, following the colour-coded wiring scheme printed on the connector block.
