Description

This pair of stoneware plates brings the fairground carousel to the Christmas table. Each plate is 16cm across and 3cm tall, a side plate size that suits a mince pie, a slice of cake or a few biscuits rather than a main course. The two designs differ, which is much of their charm: one has a single carousel horse on its pole at the centre, framed by a scalloped border, while the other is covered edge to edge with rows of small prancing horses on a striped ground. Both are made of 100% stoneware, a dense, sturdy ceramic, and each has a shallow raised rim.

We see them earning their place from the first weekend of Advent to the last of the Boxing Day leftovers. Bring them out for dessert after a festive dinner, for cake when friends call round for coffee, or for a plate of sweets and biscuits on the sideboard while presents are opened. Because the two designs differ, you can give one to each of two guests, or set them among plainer side plates so the carousel horses become the talking point of the table. The multicoloured decoration sits happily with other Christmas tableware, whether your table leans traditional or playful.

The decoration is a decal with handpainted details. The plates are food safe, but they are not dishwasher safe, microwave safe or oven safe, so wash them by hand and keep them out of the microwave and the oven; serve warm puddings onto them rather than heating anything on them.
