Description

The Mercury T16A is a 5 x 20mm glass-body cartridge fuse rated at 16 amps and 250 volts, built with time-delay (slow blow) construction to tolerate inrush currents without nuisance tripping. The delay-action element allows brief surges during equipment start-up or motor activation to pass without blowing, while still interrupting sustained overcurrent faults within milliseconds.

Designed for protection in audio equipment, power supplies, amplifiers, motors and control circuits where brief high-current surges occur during normal operation, the T16A suits both industrial and consumer electronics. The standard 5 x 20mm form factor fits most European-spec fuse holders and PCB-mount clips. The glass tube body allows visual inspection of the fuse element without removal.

The fuse carries IEC approval and meets the dimensional and electrical requirements for 5 x 20mm F-rated (fast-acting) and T-rated (time-delay) cartridge fuses. The nickel-plated brass end caps provide reliable contact in standard fuse holders. Each fuse weighs approximately 0.6g and the glass envelope is sand-filled to suppress arc propagation during fault interruption.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between slow blow and fast blow?

Slow blow (time-delay) fuses tolerate brief inrush currents during equipment start-up without blowing, making them suitable for motors, transformers and power supplies. Fast blow fuses interrupt overcurrent faults immediately and are used where inrush surges do not occur.

Is this fuse suitable for mains voltage equipment?

Yes. The 250V rating covers UK mains voltage (230V) with overhead. However, the 16A rating is higher than typical domestic fuse ratings — verify that 16A is the correct rating for your equipment before fitting.

Can this replace a fast-blow fuse of the same rating?

Not always. Using a slow blow fuse where a fast blow is specified reduces protection speed and may allow damage to occur during fault conditions. Only substitute where the equipment manufacturer specifies a time-delay fuse or where inrush currents cause nuisance blowing with fast-blow fuses.

How is the fuse inspected for failure?

The glass body allows visual inspection. A blown fuse typically shows a broken element and blackening or metallic deposits on the inside of the glass. For confirmation, use a continuity tester or multimeter set to resistance mode.
