Description
The Merapi is a 22cm diameter aluminium bowl with a hand-textured rim that mimics flowing lava, finished in contrasting gold inside and bronze outside. The rim's irregular, organic edge gives each bowl a unique profile where the metal appears to have cooled mid-flow, creating raised ridges and shallow valleys around the circumference.
Designed as a decorative accent rather than a functional vessel, the Merapi suits console tables, coffee tables, sideboards and shelving where it can sit either empty as a sculptural object or hold dry decorative items such as potpourri, decorative spheres or seasonal foliage. The two-tone finish means the bowl reads differently depending on viewing angle — from above, the gold interior catches light and creates a warm focal point; from the side, the bronze exterior anchors the piece visually against darker wood or stone surfaces.
Cast aluminium construction keeps the weight to 0.7kg despite the 23cm footprint, making it stable on surfaces without requiring additional anchoring. The gold and bronze finishes are applied as metallic coatings over the aluminium base, giving a hammered, slightly textured surface that reduces fingerprint visibility. The shallow 6.5cm depth allows the bowl to sit comfortably on narrow console tables and mantels without tipping forward.
This bowl is not food-safe and should not be used for serving or storing edible items. It is intended purely for decorative display.

Frequently Asked
Can this bowl be used for food or drink?
No. The Merapi is not food-safe and is designed purely for decorative display. Do not use it to serve or store edible items.
How is the lava-effect rim created?
The rim is hand-textured during casting to create an irregular, organic edge that mimics flowing molten lava. This means each bowl has a slightly different rim profile, with unique ridges and valleys around the edge.
What can be placed inside the bowl?
The bowl can hold dry decorative items such as potpourri, decorative spheres, seasonal foliage, ornamental stones or dried flowers. Avoid placing anything wet or oily inside, as the metallic coating may react to moisture over time.
How is the metallic finish maintained?
Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust. For fingerprints or light marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but dry immediately afterwards. Avoid chemical cleaners, polishes or abrasive materials that could damage the gold and bronze coatings.
