Description

This is a big, generous stoneware bowl, 28.5cm across and 11.5cm tall, holding 2600ml. That size makes it a serving bowl rather than a bowl for one: it is the piece that carries a salad, a pasta dish or a pile of roast potatoes to the middle of the table. The outside is covered in rows of small green fan motifs with tiny dots between them, finished with a fine line around the rim. The inside carries its own close pattern of little flowers, so it looks as good from above, full of food, as it does from the side.

We see it most at home in the kitchen and on the dining table. Use it for a big shared salad at a summer lunch, a bowl of fruit on the worktop between meals, a batch of dough left to rise, or bread rolls passed round at breakfast. At 2KG it is a substantial piece with real heft in the hand. When it is not in use it makes a handsome thing to leave out on an open shelf or dresser rather than tuck away in a cupboard.

It is made entirely of stoneware, finished with a decal print and handpainted details. Stoneware is dense and holds heat well, which suits a bowl that may sit on the table through a long meal. Care is simple: it goes in the dishwasher, it can go in the microwave to warm leftovers through, and it can go into the oven too. The green pattern works with plain white plates as easily as with other patterned tableware.
