Description
This green plant pot is low and wide, 25cm across and 14cm tall, and made entirely of stoneware. Its character lies in the wall: deep vertical slits run right through it all the way round, set between rounded ribs that rise into a wavy, scalloped rim, so the whole pot looks a little like an opening flower head. A plain, solid band circles the foot. The glossy finish picks up the light along every ridge, and at 1.76KG it has the good, solid weight of proper stoneware.
Its broad, shallow proportions suit a plant that spreads rather than one that climbs: a trailing pothos, a cluster of small succulents, a low fern or a few spring bulbs. Give it a coffee table, a sideboard, a deep windowsill or a hallway console, somewhere it is seen from the side as well as from above, so the slits and the rim both show. It is just as good without a plant; we like it filled with polished stones, glass beads or pine cones as a decorative bowl on a living room table, and it would make a thoughtful present for anyone who keeps houseplants.
Because the slits pass through the wall, loose compost would escape through them, so treat it as a pot cover: stand your plant inside it, still in its plastic nursery pot, and lift that out when it needs watering so it can drain at the sink. Stoneware is a dense, hard-fired ceramic, which gives the pot its weight and a reassuringly sturdy feel. Each rib and slit throws its own small shadow, so for styling we would set it where daylight falls across it from one side, on a pale wooden table, with a few stems trailing over the scalloped rim to soften its outline.

Frequently Asked
What is the Mavel plant pot made of?
It is made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired ceramic, with a glossy green finish over its ribbed and slit sides.
How big is it?
It is 25cm across and 14cm tall, a low, wide shape that suits spreading or trailing plants better than tall ones, and it weighs 1.76KG.
Can I plant straight into it?
We would not, because the slits run right through the wall and loose compost would escape. Stand the plant in its own plastic nursery pot within it instead.
Can it be used without a plant?
Yes. It makes a handsome decorative bowl filled with polished stones, glass beads or pine cones on a coffee table, sideboard or console.
What does the rim look like?
The rim is wavy and scalloped, formed by the tops of the rounded ribs, so from above the pot reads like an opening flower head.
