Description

The Mauri is a framed panel of woven cotton, 95cm tall and 75cm wide, in a plain mango wood frame. The cotton is left its own undyed shade, and across it run raised lines of frayed cream cotton: a long arc down each side and a stack of overlapping ovals between them. The raised work stands proud of the flat ground, so the design carries as texture before it carries as pattern, and a wide white border separates the panel from the frame.

At 95 by 75cm this hangs as a single piece rather than one of a group, above a sofa with clear wall on either side. It is 3cm deep and weighs 5kg, so it sits close against the wall and needs a fixing that will take the weight. Hanging fittings are set into the top corners of the frame.

The panel is cotton and the frame is mango wood. The cotton is woven on a traditional Indian handloom, and the raised lines are worked in frayed cotton a shade lighter than the ground they sit on. The Mauri is made in this one size.
