Marywell Wooden Pendant Light - Black

The Marywell is a pendant light with a wide, wavy shade of woven wood that dips and lifts like the brim of a sun hat, its edge bound in black. The light is 50cm long and 34.5cm wide, with an overall height of 110cm, so it gives a room a generous sweep of natural texture without looking bulky. A slim black cord drops from a black steel ceiling rose to a black lampholder, and that crisp black finish frames the brown wood neatly. It takes one E27 bulb up to a maximum of 40W, and the bulb is not included, so the choice of lamp and colour of light is yours. With an IP20 rating it belongs indoors, in dry rooms.

Hung over a dining table, the Marywell gives the table a clear centre and draws the eye upwards, which is how we like to use it. The woven wood sits comfortably alongside timber furniture, linen, baskets and house plants, and it brings a relaxed, holiday warmth to a plainer modern room just as easily. It works well in a living room, a bedroom or over a reading chair, anywhere you want soft texture overhead rather than hard metal or glass. Anyone furnishing with natural materials will find it ties a room together.

The body is steel in a black finish and the shade is wood in a natural brown, a pairing that keeps the fittings crisp and the shade soft and organic. There is no switch on the light itself, as it is switched at the wall, so it follows the switch you already have. It runs on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz supply, and being hard-wired, it is installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions come as a download, and packed, it weighs 1.671KG. Choose an E27 bulb of no more than 40W; a warm white globe bulb shows off the woven wood beautifully.
