Description

This is a round stoneware bowl, 21cm across and 8cm tall, holding 1400ml. Inside, a repeating pattern of four-petalled flowers, each one outlined in fine dots, covers the surface from the rim to the centre against a brown ground. The outside is just as detailed: a band of raised dots runs below the rim between fine grooved lines, and rows of leaf and diamond shapes stand out in relief down to a neat foot. A glossy surface catches the light across the pattern, so the bowl looks good whether it is full or sitting empty on a shelf.

At 1400ml this is a serving bowl rather than a single portion: big enough for a salad or a pasta dish to share in the middle of the table, or a pile of fruit on the kitchen counter. It suits a dining table where the brown pattern sits happily beside wood, linen and other earthy tableware, and it is as at home at an everyday family supper as at a weekend lunch with guests. Because it is microwave safe, leftovers can go straight back in to be warmed through without moving them to another dish.

It is made of 100% stoneware and weighs 0.79KG, so it feels solid in the hand. Stoneware is a dense, hardwearing ceramic that copes well with daily use.
