Description
This is the Marigold cushion, worked in a jacquard fabric so the pattern is woven into the cloth rather than printed on top. The design comes from an 1875 William Morris drawing of marigolds and swirling foliage, and here it reads as a dense field of pale flowers and leaves against a deep leaf green ground. Because it is jacquard, the motif has a slight raised texture you can feel with your hand, and the reverse carries the same design, so there is no wrong way to sit it on a chair. It measures 50cm square and is finished with a velvet piped edge and a zip closure.
A square cushion at this size is the workhorse of a sofa or an armchair, big enough to sit against and read a book, small enough to layer two or three along a three-seater. The green here is a proper forest tone, so it sits happily against natural linen, oatmeal and warm wood, as well as beside other Morris patterns if you are building a room around the archive. It suits a living room, a reading chair by a window, or the head of a made bed as an accent. Pair it with plainer weaves so the busy pattern has room to breathe.
The velvet piping runs the full perimeter and gives the edge a defined, slightly plush line that frames the print. The zip means the cover comes off, which is the practical detail to check for on any cushion you actually use rather than only look at. It is made from polyester throughout, a hard-wearing fibre that holds colour well and resists creasing, so the cushion keeps its shape through daily use. The double-sided design and piped finish are the same construction you will find across the wider Marigold range, so a cushion, a curtain and a length of the same cloth read as one thought.

Frequently Asked
Is the cover removable?
Yes, it has a zip closure along one edge, so the cover comes off the pad for cleaning or for storing flat out of season.
Is the pattern the same on both sides?
Yes, the design is double-sided, so you can turn the cushion over and the marigold pattern shows either way with no plain reverse.
What is the piping made of?
The piped trim around the edge is velvet, giving the border a soft, defined line that frames the woven pattern all the way round.
What does jacquard mean here?
Jacquard means the pattern is woven into the cloth rather than printed on the surface, which gives the marigold motif a subtle raised texture.
What size is it and what does it fit?
It is 50cm square, a standard scatter cushion size that layers well on a sofa, an armchair or across the head of a made bed.
