Description

This is a large serving bowl in black stoneware, 30cm across and 7.5cm tall, holding 1700ml. It is wide and shallow, standing on a low foot, and it is hand-painted: a big flower opens at the centre, smaller flowers sit around it, and crescents, squiggles and dots spread out towards the rim. The crescents carry on around the outside too, so the bowl has something to show from the side as well as from overhead.

With 1700ml to fill, this is a bowl for the middle of the table rather than a single portion: a big salad, a dish of pasta, roast vegetables or a pile of fruit for everyone to help themselves from. The 30cm width gives a shared dish room to spread out, and the painted flower comes back into view as the bowl empties. It belongs on the kitchen or dining table for weekday suppers and for long lunches with friends, and between meals it can stand on an open shelf or a dresser, where the hand-painted pattern earns its place as something to look at.

The bowl is made of 100% stoneware and weighs 1.5KG, so it has real weight in the hands.
