Description

A rectangular wall mirror, 91cm tall and 70cm wide, set in a frame of natural mango wood. The frame is plain and square-edged, the glass held inside a narrow inner lip, and the wood is left pale with its grain showing. Two antique brass pivots are fixed one to each side at about the middle of the height, and these are what the mirror hangs and turns on.

The pivots let the mirror tilt, so the angle is set after it is on the wall rather than fixed by where the brackets go. Above a basin, a dressing table or a hall console that means the reflection can be brought down to meet whoever is standing in front of it. It hangs portrait at 91cm tall and 70cm wide, so it wants a clear run of wall rather than a narrow gap between cupboards.

The frame is mango wood and the pivots and brackets are iron under an antique brass finish. Each one is made by hand, and both materials are left with a lightly weathered surface rather than worked up to a shine, so the grain and the texture stay visible. The Mar is made in this one size.
