Description

This is a lidded butter dish in cream stoneware: a small rectangular box with a flat lid that sits neatly on top. Sprigs of tulip-like flowers and leaves run in rows around all four sides, while the lid carries a radiating sunburst of fine lines ringed with little circles, so the base and the lid each have a pattern of their own. The decoration is a decal with handpainted detailing, which gives the linework a hand-drawn look. It measures 12.5cm long, 9.5cm wide and 6cm tall and holds 280ml.

At 280ml it is a butter dish for the everyday, sized to sit beside the toast at breakfast, be passed round the table and then go back in the fridge with its lid on.
