Description

The Maliki is an indoor planter formed from rolled iron sheet, 29cm tall and 35cm across, with an opening of 27cm. The body swells out from a small recessed foot to its widest point just below the rim, then turns in slightly to a flat lip. The surface is finished in aged bronze, a dark brown that runs warmer and redder low on the body and greys towards the rim, with a low sheen rather than a matt face.

At 35cm across, with an opening of 27cm, a nursery pot of up to 27cm drops straight into it. It stands on the floor, low and wide rather than tall. The same planter is made at 24cm and at 18cm tall as well, and it can stand on its own or be grouped in twos and threes at different heights. It is made for indoor use.

The pot is iron, rolled from sheet using traditional metalworking and then finished in aged bronze. Iron is used here for its strength, and the bronze is a finish worked over it rather than the metal underneath.
