Malia Reactive Glaze Mug - Cream - Set of 2

The Malia is a stoneware mug 10.3cm high and 9cm across the body, straight-sided with a slight flare at the foot and a loop handle. The upper third is fluted in fine vertical lines. A dark reactive glaze runs around the rim and down the outer edge of the handle, breaking where it meets the cream and catching in the flutes, so the fluting reads as a band of dark lines from across a room. Two mugs come in a set.

Each mug holds 380ml, which is a full mug rather than a cup, and both are dishwasher safe and food safe. The dark edge is where the reactive glaze gathers, so it lies thickest at the lip and runs thin a short way down into the flutes. Because the kiln decides how far it travels, the two mugs in a set will not carry it at quite the same depth.

The mug is stoneware under a cream glaze. The glaze is reactive, so the heat of the firing shifts it and every mug comes out with its own markings and its own depth of colour. Wash them after every use so they do not stain, using a mild detergent, and do not leave them to soak. They are dishwasher safe. Handle them carefully, as stoneware chips.
