Description

The Malia cup is a wide, low cup on a matching saucer, glazed cream. The lower two thirds of the cup is fluted, with close vertical ribs that stop short of a smooth band at the rim, and a thin brown line is drawn round the lip by hand and again round the edge of the saucer. The handle is a small round loop set high on the side. The cup stands 8.7cm and the saucer measures 13.7cm at its widest.

It is an oversized cup rather than a teacup, and it takes a breakfast coffee or a large tea rather than a small one. The ribs pick up the light down the side of the cup and the brown line draws the top of it. The cup and the saucer are sold together.

The cup and saucer are ceramic under a reactive glaze. The kiln moves that glaze as it heats, so the cream comes up lighter on one piece and deeper on another and the brown at the rim varies in weight. The shape is not thrown to a strict profile either, and the rim of the saucer waves a little. Malia is a wider table range and the cup is part of it.

Frequently Asked

Is the saucer included?

Yes. The cup and saucer come together.

How big is the cup?

8.7cm tall, and the saucer is 13.7cm at its widest. It is an oversized cup rather than a teacup.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes, and food safe.

Will every cup look exactly the same?

No. The glaze is reactive and shifts in the kiln, so the cream and the brown at the rim come out differently on every cup.

How do I look after it?

Give it a wash after use rather than letting it stand, with a mild detergent and no soaking. It chips at the rim if it is knocked, so put it down gently.
