Malia Large Oval Serving Platter - Cream

The Malia platter is a shallow oval, 42cm long and 29cm across, 2.5cm deep, in cream ceramic. The rim is closely fluted, with fine ribs running out from a smooth well to the edge, and a thin brown line is painted by hand around the outside. The oval is not drawn to a strict curve; it swells a little on one side of its length, which is what handwork leaves.

42cm is a length for a whole side of a table rather than a place setting. It takes a joint to carve, a spread of appetisers or a row of puddings, and it is food safe. Laid across a table, the fluting and the brown line stand out. At 2.5cm deep it is a platter rather than a dish.

The platter is ceramic under a reactive cream glaze. A reactive glaze shifts as the kiln heats it, so the tone moves across the surface and no two platters come out alike. The brown line at the rim is painted on each one by hand, so its weight varies as well. The rest of the Malia range carries the same cream glaze.
