Description

The Magola is an outdoor wall light in solid brass with a ridged recycled glass shade. It is 17cm tall, 14cm wide and reaches 26cm from the wall, on a round back plate with a short arm that holds the glass shade hanging beneath it. The brass carries an antique finish and the glass is ridged rather than smooth, which breaks the light rather than letting it out as a single point.

The rating is IP44, which covers splashing from any direction and is what allows it outdoors: a porch, a door surround, or a run along a garden wall. The ribbed glass is clear, so the light falls on the ground beneath to pick out a path or a step, and it carries across the wall as well. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W and it is dimmable. It weighs 1.7kg, so the fixing wants to be into masonry rather than a cladding board.

The body is solid brass and the shade is recycled glass, both chosen to weather rather than to stay new: brass exposed to the open air darkens and patinates over time, unevenly, wherever the weather reaches it. Each glass shade is made individually, so the ridging differs from one to the next. Bulbs are not included.

Frequently Asked

Can it go outside?

Yes. It is rated IP44, which covers splashing from any direction, and the brass and glass are both chosen to weather.

How far does it stand off the wall?

26cm. Allow for that beside a door or on a narrow path.

Will the brass stay this colour?

No. Solid brass in the open air darkens and patinates unevenly, wherever the weather reaches it. The antique finish is a starting point rather than a fixed one.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off at the wall, then a soft brush on the fixings and a soft dry cloth on the brass. Keep abrasives and harsh chemicals off the finish.
