Description
The LYYT RGB LED strip kit supplies a 5m reel of IP65-rated multicolour LED tape on a black plastic reel, a 12V DC power supply, an IR controller and a 44-button infrared remote. The tape outputs red, green and blue LEDs independently, allowing the controller to mix static colours, scrolling fades and jumping pattern effects across the full visible spectrum.
Designed for accent lighting in residential, retail and hospitality environments, the strip applies to clean flat surfaces via a self-adhesive backing along the reverse of the tape. Common applications include under-cabinet lighting in kitchens, cove lighting in living rooms, shelf edge lighting in retail displays and architectural feature lighting where coloured effects are needed without permanent electrical work. The IP65 rating on the tape allows use in damp zones including bathrooms (zones 2 and 3) and covered outdoor areas, while the IP67-rated power supply handles moisture exposure during installation.
The kit includes five DC screw terminal plugs and five matching sockets, allowing multiple connection points along the tape run or between reels. Each screw terminal connector is rated to 5A maximum. The 12V low-voltage operation removes the need for Part P certification in domestic installations, though a BS1363 plug top must be added to the power supply for UK mains connection (sold separately). For runs longer than 5m, an in-line amplifier is required between reels to maintain consistent brightness and colour accuracy.
The infrared remote provides direct access to static colour presets, scrolling fade modes, jumping colour-change effects and brightness adjustment. The controller unit sits between the power supply and the LED tape, with screw terminal connections at both ends. All components (tape, controller, power supply, connectors) are packed separately within the kit box.
Frequently Asked
Can this be used in a bathroom?
The IP65-rated LED tape is suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the shower enclosure but within 0.6m of a basin or bath edge). The IP67 power supply handles moisture exposure. Do not install in zone 0 or zone 1 (inside the shower or above the bath).
Does it come with a UK plug?
No. The power supply has bare cable ends and requires a BS1363 plug top to be fitted before connection to UK mains sockets. This allows electricians to wire the supply into a fused spur if preferred.
Can I cut the tape to length?
Yes. LED tape can be cut at marked intervals along its length (typically every three LEDs). Check the tape surface for scissor symbols indicating safe cut points. Cutting elsewhere will damage the circuit.
How do I extend beyond 5m?
For runs longer than 5m, connect an in-line amplifier between the first reel and the second. Running two reels in series without an amplifier causes voltage drop, leading to dimmer output and inaccurate colours at the far end.
