Description

The large Lumina is a fluted glass cloche: a domed shoulder at the top, straight sides, and an open rim at the bottom. The flutes run the full height as narrow vertical ribs, set close enough together to read as a ribbed surface rather than as separate lines. A brass lampholder hangs inside on a short brass stem from the top of the dome, so the bulb sits well up inside the glass. Above it a brass chain carries a rust coloured fabric flex from a round brass ceiling plate. It is 40cm tall and 30cm across.

The shade is open underneath, so light goes straight down onto whatever is below while the ribbed sides send the rest out in vertical bands. That gives a defined pool below and a lit shape at eye level. At 30cm across one is enough over a round table, and a pair spaced along a long one does the same job; it also works on its own in a hall or a sitting room. It takes one E27 bulb up to 70W, it is dimmable, the flex runs 1.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown into a mould, so the flutes come out regular while the wall thickness and the small marks in the glass do not. The lampholder, chain and ceiling plate are brass and the flex is rust coloured fabric. The Lumina range also holds a narrower fluted pendant 29cm long and a cluster of them on a single ceiling plate. Bulbs are not included.

Frequently Asked

How is it different from the smaller Lumina?

The smaller one is a closed tube 29cm long and 14cm across, hung on a flex with no chain. This is an open cloche 40cm tall and 30cm across on a brass chain. Both take one E27 bulb.

Will the bulb be visible?

Yes. The glass is clear and the shade is open at the bottom, so the bulb shows through the ribs and directly from below.

What colour is the cable?

Rust, in braided fabric, threaded through a brass chain from a round brass ceiling plate.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion, following the ribs. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
