Our Lorris chest of drawers pairs two small doors with two drawers beneath them, every front woven in a diamond pattern that gives the whole piece its texture. It is made of 60% firwood, 20% rattan, 10% plywood and 10% bamboo, and it comes in beige. At 45cm long, 36cm wide and 67cm tall it is a compact piece: tall enough to work as a bedside or hall cabinet, small enough to fit where a full chest would crowd the room.

We see it first in a hallway, where the top takes keys, a lamp or a vase and the doors hide post, gloves and chargers. Beside a bed it keeps books and reading glasses in the drawers and the bedside clutter behind closed doors. It suits a living room corner too, next to a sofa or an armchair, and a guest room that needs storage without bulk. At 8.7KG it is light enough to move between rooms when your plans change, which makes it a good first piece for a rented flat.

The doors hinge at their outer edges and meet in the centre, each with a round knob, and each drawer has a single round knob at its middle.
