Description

The Lin is an oversized ceramic mug holding 650ml. The body is a rounded barrel, widest across the middle and drawn in to a straight rim at the top and a small flat foot at the base. It is ribbed all the way round in fine horizontal ridges, and the blue sits on the ridges and leaves the hollows cream, so the body reads as a run of close blue stripes. Some bands take the colour heavily and run almost solid, others barely at all. The rim band, the foot and the handle are left plain, and the handle is a full open loop set high on the body rather than a small ear.

At 650ml the mug holds close to twice what a standard one does, which makes it one filled once and carried to a chair rather than topped up at the kettle: a long tea, a hot chocolate, a spiced latte. The open loop takes a whole hand, which is what a mug of this weight needs when it is full. It sits on a desk.

The mug is ceramic, glazed inside and out, and the inside is plain cream with none of the pattern carried through. Because the blue varies in density from band to band, the stripes shift in weight around the body and no two read alike. It weighs 0.45kg empty. This is one mug rather than a set.
