Description

The Laya is a round dining table, 150cm across and 76cm high, standing on a single turned pedestal. The top is made up from boards laid side by side and finished in a deep chocolate brown that lets the grain and the knots read through it. The pedestal swells out from a narrow waist into a heavy baluster and lands on a stepped round foot.

A 150cm round top seats six, and the pedestal is what makes that work: there are no legs at the edge, so chairs pull in anywhere around it and nobody ends up sitting astride one. At 86.2kg it is a heavy table, so it wants deciding on before it is carried in.

The top and the base are mango and neem wood. The base is turned slowly by hand to reach its shape, and the boards for each top are picked to sit together. Mango is a by-product of the fruit growing that comes first, cut for timber only once the trees stop bearing. The Laya dining table is also made at 120cm across.

Frequently Asked

How many does it seat?

Six.

How big is it?

150cm across and 76cm high. It weighs 86.2kg.

Does it stand on legs?

No. It stands on a single turned pedestal with a round foot, so the edge of the table is clear all the way round.

What is it made from?

Mango wood and neem wood.

How is it looked after?

Wipe it regularly with a soft dry cloth, always along the grain. Mild soap and water can be used sparingly. Use mats and coasters, lift spills straight away, and keep it out of strong direct sunlight and away from extremes of heat and humidity.
