Description

The Laoko is a round aluminium planter, 30cm across and 23cm high. The body curves out from a small flat foot to its widest point around the middle, then draws back in to an opening 27cm across. The outside is worked all over in close rows of small punched marks, and the olive grey surface is mottled and chalky against an interior that is dark.

The opening measures 27cm across, so a nursery pot up to that width drops straight in and sits below the rim. At 23cm high this is a planter for a surface rather than for the floor. The punched rows catch the light along the shoulder where the body turns, so the surface reads as texture rather than as pattern.

The planter is aluminium. The sheet is cut, hammered and welded, then finished by hand, so the markings and the depth of the olive grey differ from one planter to the next. The Laoko is made in two sizes, this one and a smaller version at 20.5cm across. Supplied without an inner pot.
