Knightsbridge 6 Gang Grid Faceplate - Metalclad Silver

The Knightsbridge 6-gang grid faceplate is a 148mm square powder-coated steel plate designed to accept six modular grid inserts within the Metalclad system. The plate is constructed from premium-grade steel with a silver-grey powder-coated finish and a low 3.5mm projection from the wall once fitted. It requires two GDF002F frames (sold separately) to mount the grid inserts.

Designed for industrial, commercial and utility installations where exposed wiring or back boxes are impractical, the Metalclad system allows switches, sockets and data modules to be surface-mounted directly onto walls, conduit runs or trunking. The 6-gang configuration suits control panels, workshop walls, plant rooms and backstage areas where multiple switching or socket functions need to be grouped in one location. The IP20 rating provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but the faceplate is not suitable for wet or outdoor locations.

The powder-coated silver finish is hard-wearing and resists chipping better than painted steel, maintaining appearance in high-traffic or industrial environments. The 148mm square footprint matches the standard UK double-gang switch format, so the faceplate can be mounted over existing back boxes if surface mounting is preferred for retrofit projects. The steel construction gives the assembly structural rigidity when multiple heavy-duty grid inserts are fitted, preventing flex or distortion under repeated switch actuation.

This faceplate is compatible only with Knightsbridge Metalclad grid system components. It will not accept standard modular grid inserts from other manufacturers due to differences in frame depth and fixing points.

What frames are needed to fit grid inserts?

This faceplate requires two GDF002F frames (sold separately) to mount six modular grid inserts. Each GDF002F accepts three grid modules, so two frames fill the six apertures in this faceplate.

Can this be used with standard modular grid inserts?

No. The Knightsbridge Metalclad grid system uses proprietary frame depths and fixing points that are incompatible with standard grid modules from other manufacturers. Only Knightsbridge Metalclad grid inserts and frames will fit this faceplate.

Is it suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?

The IP20 rating provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but offers no moisture protection. This faceplate is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor locations or any area where water ingress is possible.

What thickness of wall or surface can it be mounted on?

The 3.5mm projection means the faceplate sits almost flush with the mounting surface. It can be fixed directly to flat walls, over conduit runs, onto trunking or over existing back boxes using appropriate fixings for the substrate material.
