Description

The Kiko arch frame is two panes of glass held in a slim metal edge soldered around the outside, flat along the bottom and up the sides and turning into an arch at the top. It stands 35.5cm tall and 29cm wide and is only 0.5cm thick. A small clip sits on each side edge, and a printed fabric strap knots through a loop at either shoulder of the arch to hang it by. The solder shows as a bead along every join.

The glass is clear on both faces, so whatever goes between the panes floats against the wall behind it rather than sitting on a paper mount. A pressed fern, a dried grass stem or a small embroidered square all work that way, and a group of frames hangs above a side table. At 35.5cm by 29cm this is the largest of the three arch sizes, and the strap carries the frame some way below the hook, so there is more drop to allow for than the frame height alone.

The panes are recycled glass and the surround is iron, finished in antique brass. The metal is soldered around the glass by hand using traditional tools, which is why the weld marks are there on the joins, left showing rather than ground away. No two frames carry them in quite the same places. The Kiko arch frame is also made in two smaller sizes.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

35.5cm tall, 29cm wide and 0.5cm thick.

Is the glass clear on both sides?

Yes. Whatever goes in sits between two panes, so the wall behind shows through around it.

How does it hang?

From a printed fabric strap, knotted to a loop at either shoulder of the arch.

What is it made from?

Recycled glass and iron, finished in antique brass.

Why are there marks on the joins?

The metal is soldered around the glass by hand, and the weld marks are left as they fall rather than ground off.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the metal over with a soft dry cloth so dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass.
