Description

An arch topped picture frame that holds an 8 x 10 inch photograph between two sheets of recycled glass. The frame is a slim band of metal bent into a rounded arch at the top and squared off at the foot, soldered round the glass by hand so that the weld marks show at every join. Small clips hold the two sheets together down one side and a hinge runs down the other. It hangs from a narrow strap wound in printed fabric, red and pink, looped through a ring at each shoulder of the arch.

Because the picture is held between clear glass rather than laid on a backing board, whatever is behind the frame shows through around the edges of the print. That suits a pressed flower, a fern or a piece of artwork on thin paper as much as a photograph. The strap means it hangs from a single nail or hook rather than having to be levelled across two. Three of them hang together at different heights.

The frame is iron under a brass finish and the glazing is recycled glass. The soldering is done by hand with traditional tools, which is where the marks on the joins come from. The Kiko arch frame is also made for a 5 x 7 inch picture and in an extra large size, both in antique brass.
