Description

The large Katiri tree stands 42cm tall and 20cm across in both directions. It is made from flat brass sheet, cut by hand into two tree silhouettes that slot together through a central slit so they cross at right angles, standing on four splayed feet with a small star at the top. The finish is aged brass.

Forty-two centimetres against twenty across makes it a tall, narrow object rather than a broad one, so it takes the corner of a sideboard, a hall table or a wide sill without spreading over it. It weighs 0.32kg. Brass returns the light from whatever is lit near it rather than producing any of its own, and an aged surface gives that back warm rather than bright.

The brass is cut and shaped from sheet by hand, so no two trees come out identical. Katiri runs at 30cm as well, which stands twelve centimetres shorter on the same 20cm footprint.
