Description

A pair of short ceramic mugs, each 7cm tall and 8cm across, holding 225ml. The body is straight sided and the glaze is a soft cream, and over the top two thirds of it runs a dense band of fine blue lines, drawn down from the rim and stopping unevenly part way, so the cream comes back through towards the base. The handle is small and plain, in the same cream as the body.

At 7cm tall these are short mugs, and two are supplied. Each holds 225ml. The blue band reads almost black from across a table and only resolves into separate lines close up. They are dishwasher safe and food safe. The same mug is made in a large, and the Karuma range runs a dinner plate, a side plate, a cereal bowl, a large serving bowl, jugs in two sizes and a twelve piece dinner set alongside them.

The mugs are white clay, shaped and painted by hand. The blue lines are etched into the clay first and then hand painted, which is why they carry the slight waver of a drawn line rather than the evenness of a print. The range is made by long established methods, and because every piece is shaped and painted by hand the two mugs in a set will differ a little from each other.
