Kariba Elephant Hurricane 37cm - Antique Brass

The Kariba is a 37cm decorative hurricane lantern built around a cast aluminium elephant figure standing beneath sculpted palm leaves, finished in antique brass. A smoked grey glass hurricane sits in the palm fronds above the elephant, creating a holder for pillar or votive candles up to approximately 6cm diameter and 10cm height. The entire piece weighs 1.725kg and stands on a flat circular base measuring 17cm across.

Designed as a decorative accent for sideboards, console tables, mantels and dining table centrepieces, the Kariba functions both as a candleholder and as a sculptural object when unlit. The antique brass finish varies in tone across the piece, with darker patina in the recessed details of the elephant's trunk, ears and textured skin, and lighter brass highlights on raised surfaces. This tonal variation is characteristic of antique brass finishing and develops further over time with handling.

The elephant figure is cast as a single piece with the palm trunk and leaf structure, so there are no joints or separate components that can loosen. The smoked grey glass insert sits securely in the leaf canopy and can be lifted out for cleaning or candle replacement. The 17cm base provides stability on most flat surfaces without needing additional weight, though care should be taken on narrow shelves or surfaces subject to vibration.

What size candle does it hold?

The smoked glass hurricane accepts pillar or votive candles up to approximately 6cm diameter and 10cm height. Standard pillar candles in 5cm or 6cm widths fit comfortably.

Is the glass removable?

Yes. The smoked grey glass insert sits in the palm leaf canopy and can be lifted out for cleaning, candle replacement, or if you prefer to display the piece without the glass.

How is the antique brass finish maintained?

Antique brass develops natural tonal variation and patina over time. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid metal polishes or abrasive cleaners, which will remove the intentional dark patina in the recessed details.

Is the elephant separate from the base?

No. The elephant, palm trunk, leaf structure and circular base are cast as a single aluminium piece, so there are no separate components that can detach or loosen over time.
