Kara Iron Floor Lamp Base - Brass

The Kara is a swing arm floor lamp base in a brass finish. A flat square plate 26.5cm each way sits on the floor, a slim column rises from it, and at the top a two part arm turns on a pair of knurled pivots and carries the lampholder out to one side. Both pivots swing in plan rather than up and down, so the arm folds in against the column or opens away from it. It stands 144cm tall and the flex is rust coloured braid with a switch on the cord.

The point of a jointed arm is that the shade moves without the base moving. Stand the plate beside or behind a chair and the arm brings the light over the seat, then folds back when the chair is empty. A square plate sits flush against a skirting board or a sofa side in a way a round foot does not. At 144cm the lampholder is above seated head height, so the bulb stays out of view. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, the flex runs 3.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The column and arm are iron in a brass finish, and at 2.32kg this is a light base, so the arm is best opened over a chair rather than out into a walkway. The Kara range also holds the same lamp in an aged bronze finish. No shade and no bulb are included.

Which way does the arm move?

Sideways, on two upright pivots. It swings across the room at a fixed height rather than tilting up and down.

Does a shade come with it?

No, this is the base alone. Keep the shade modest in size and weight, because it hangs on the end of the arm rather than sitting over the column.

Is it steady with the arm out?

The base is a 26.5cm square plate and the whole lamp is 2.32kg, so it is light. Open the arm over a chair or a table rather than into a walkway, and pick a shade that does not overhang the plate by much.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then a soft dry cloth. The brass is a surface finish over iron, so abrasives and harsh chemicals will cut through to the metal.
