Description

The Kara is a 6W LED recessed panel light with a 149mm white polycarbonate surround and an opal diffuser that spreads 550lm of 4000K cool white light across a 110-degree beam angle. The integrated LED sits behind edge-lit technology, distributing light evenly across the panel surface without visible hotspots or dark patches. The fitting requires a 135mm ceiling cut-out and a minimum 75mm void depth above the ceiling plane.

Designed for flush installation in corridors, offices, kitchens and commercial spaces where ceiling depth is limited, the Kara's 24mm recessed depth keeps the visible profile low while the Class II double-insulated construction removes the need for an earth connection during installation. The constant current driver runs on 230V mains and supports dimming where paired with a compatible LED dimmer — check dimmer compatibility before installation to avoid flicker or driver damage.

The white polycarbonate body and opal diffuser give a clean finish that sits flush with plasterboard ceilings or suspended tile grids. The 6W draw delivers 550lm at an efficacy of 124lm/W, with a CRI above 80 maintaining colour accuracy under the cool 4000K output. The L70B50 rating of 30,000 hours predicts that 50% of units will still deliver at least 70% of initial light output after three years of continuous operation. Is the Kara dimmable?

Yes, the fitting is rated as dimmable but requires a compatible LED dimmer. Check dimmer compatibility before installation — not all dimmers work correctly with constant current LED drivers, and incompatible dimmers can cause flicker or premature driver failure.

What cut-out size is needed?

The ceiling cut-out diameter is 135mm. A minimum void depth of 75mm above the ceiling surface is required to accommodate the driver and fitting body, which sits 24mm into the ceiling cavity once installed.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating makes the Kara suitable only for dry indoor environments. It is not rated for bathroom zones or areas exposed to moisture.

Is an emergency conversion available?

Yes. Knightsbridge offers the EMKIT2L emergency conversion kit (sold separately) which allows the Kara to operate as emergency lighting for fire-safety compliance in commercial installations.
