Description
The Knightsbridge Kara is a 6W LED recessed panel light with a 135mm cut-out diameter, 24mm recessed depth and integrated SMD LEDs delivering 550lm at 4000K cool white. The edge-lit design places the LEDs around the perimeter of the panel rather than behind the diffuser, producing uniform light distribution across the 149mm diameter face without visible hotspots or dark zones.
Designed for installation into ceiling voids with a minimum 75mm clearance above the finished ceiling plane, the Kara suits corridors, offices, kitchens, bathrooms (IP20 dry zones only), and low-ceiling rooms where a slim 24mm profile is needed. The polycarbonate housing and opal diffuser combine to give a flush white finish against painted plaster or plasterboard ceilings. The panel is Class II double-insulated, requiring no earth connection during fitting.
The constant-current driver is integrated into the housing and runs on 230V mains without the need for a separate transformer. The panel is non-dimmable and is rated for an L70B50 lifespan of 30,000 hours, meaning 70% of the original lumen output is maintained after that period under typical use. A compatible emergency kit (EMKIT2L, sold separately) can be added during installation to convert the panel to emergency operation. The Kara range also includes 12W, 18W and 24W versions for larger cut-outs.

Frequently Asked
What ceiling void depth is needed?
A minimum 75mm clearance is required above the finished ceiling plane. The panel itself is 24mm deep, but the void allows space for the driver housing and any wiring connections behind the panel.
Is the Kara dimmable?
No. The integrated constant-current driver is not compatible with dimmer switches. The panel operates at full 550lm output when powered.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating limits the Kara to dry zones only. It is not suitable for installation directly above baths, showers or within Zone 1 or Zone 2 of a bathroom. It can be used in bathroom ceilings where the location is outside the defined wet zones.
What is the cut-out diameter?
135mm. Use a holesaw or jigsaw to cut the aperture in plasterboard or plaster ceilings. The panel sits flush once installed, with the 149mm diameter faceplate covering the cut edge.
