Description
The Knightsbridge Kara is a 24W LED recessed panel light with a 300mm diameter white polycarbonate trim and an opal diffuser that sits flush with the ceiling surface. The panel uses edge-lit SMD LED technology to distribute 2270 lumens of 4000K cool white light evenly across the surface, producing uniform illumination without visible hotspots or dark zones. The entire fitting projects just 24mm into the ceiling void, making it suitable for shallow plenums or retrofit installations where ceiling depth is limited.
Designed for commercial and residential applications including offices, corridors, kitchens, bathrooms (dry-zone only — IP20 rated) and utility rooms, the Kara provides functional overhead lighting where glare reduction and even spread matter more than decorative appearance. The 285mm cut-out diameter requires a minimum 75mm ceiling void for the driver and rear housing. The constant current driver is integrated into the rear of the panel and connects directly to 230V mains via a push-fit terminal block, requiring no external control gear.
The white polycarbonate construction is lightweight and impact-resistant, and the opal diffuser softens the LED output to reduce direct glare when viewed from below. The 110-degree beam angle provides wide coverage suitable for general area lighting rather than focused task work. The panel is non-dimmable and rated Class II (double-insulated), meaning it does not require an earth connection. An optional emergency conversion kit (EMKIT2L, sold separately) can be retrofitted to meet fire safety regulations in commercial escape routes.
The L70B50 rating of 30,000 hours indicates the point at which 50% of a batch of these panels will have degraded to 70% of initial output, which translates to approximately 10-12 years of typical office use at 8 hours per day. The efficacy of 127 lumens per watt and CRI of >80 make the Kara a functional choice for utility spaces where colour accuracy is less critical than in retail or hospitality environments.

Frequently Asked
Is the Kara dimmable?
No. The integrated driver is non-dimmable and will not function correctly when paired with a dimmer switch. Attempting to dim this panel may cause flickering or damage to the driver.
What ceiling void depth is required?
A minimum 75mm void is needed to accommodate the driver and rear housing. The panel itself projects 24mm into the void, but the driver housing extends further. Measure the actual void depth before ordering to confirm compatibility.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating limits the Kara to dry zones in bathrooms (Zone 3 or outside any zone). It is not suitable for installation directly above baths, showers or within 600mm of a water source. For wet-zone bathroom lighting, see IP44 or IP65 rated panels.
Does it come with an emergency backup?
No, but the Kara is compatible with the Knightsbridge EMKIT2L emergency conversion kit (sold separately), which provides 3-hour emergency operation for use in commercial escape routes subject to fire safety regulations.
