Description

The Kapil is a round jute pouffe, 60cm across and 30cm high, built as a low drum with a flat top. The top is a coiled jute braid worked in a spiral out from the centre and left in its own straw colour. The sides are woven in charcoal with a row of large pale diamonds running round them, and a plain band of undyed jute finishes the base.

At 30cm it sits below seat height, which makes it a footrest in front of an armchair and extra seating pulled up beside a sofa when there are more people than chairs. It carries up to 120kg. The braided top is flat and firm enough to take a tray. Colours fade in direct sunlight, so it is better away from a window than in one.

The cover is jute over a polyfill filling. The panels are woven on a handloom and the pouffe is then assembled by hand. The charcoal is not even across the weave, reading darker in some passes than others, and the whole thing weighs 9kg.
