Description

A butter dish in two parts: a marble base 17.5 by 10.5cm with a raised lip and softly rounded corners, and a clear glass dome that sits down onto it with a faceted ball for a knob. Together they stand 12.5cm. The marble is grey against white and heavily veined, and the dome is hand blown, so the glass is not perfectly even and the wall thickness changes round it.

The base is flat inside the lip rather than dished, so a block of butter sits on it as it comes rather than being pressed into a shape, and the lip catches what softens off it. At 1.1kg the dish stays where it is put when the dome is taken off with one hand.

The base is marble and the dome is recycled glass. The veining runs differently through every base, so no two dishes are alike. It is food safe. Kallso also runs as a cake dome in the same marble and glass.
