Description

The Juhli is an arched wall mirror that runs wider than it stands tall, 110cm across and 91cm high. The glass sits square at the bottom with straight sides and a shallow arch turned over the top. Round all four edges the frame is a narrow band worked into close vertical ridges, and because the metal is cast rather than pressed the ridges come out uneven, no two of them quite the same width or depth.

The landscape proportion is what decides where it goes: it sits over a mantelpiece, a console or a sideboard, not beside a door. It takes 110cm of wall and stands 4.5cm off it. Hung above a console it throws the light from the opposite window back across the room. It weighs 17.88kg and needs a fixing that will hold that.

The frame is aluminium, sandcast. Molten metal is poured into a mould packed from sand and left to cool, and the cast is then broken free of the sand, which is what leaves the surface irregular and gives every frame a slightly different texture. It is finished in aged antique brass.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

110cm wide, 91cm high and 4.5cm deep.

Is it portrait or landscape?

Landscape. It is wider than it is tall, with the arch turned over the top edge.

How is it fixed?

It hangs on a wall. At 17.88kg the scale and weight mean it needs a secure fastening.

What is it made from?

Sandcast aluminium, finished in aged antique brass.

Will every frame look the same?

Not exactly. Every frame is cast in sand, so the ridging and the texture vary from one mirror to the next.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a microfibre cloth in a circular motion. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
