Description

Joseph is a set of four stoneware mugs, each holding 260ml, which is a true everyday mug size: roomy enough for a full brew of tea or a milky coffee. Each mug stands 9.5cm tall and measures 9cm across, with a body that flares gently out towards the rim and a rounded loop handle that gives a comfortable grip. Fine vertical ribs rise from the foot, and a multicoloured drip glaze runs down from the rim in long streaks that follow the ribbing, with more streaks swept along the handle.

Four matching mugs suit a household of two or four, a first home, or a small gathering round the kitchen table for coffee and cake. They are made for daily use, from the first tea of the morning to a hot chocolate in the evening, and are just as much at home on a desk in the home office as on the breakfast table. As they are rated for food as well as drink, a mug also does for a single portion of soup or a few spoonfuls of yoghurt and granola. Out of use, the ribbed sides and streaked glaze make them worth keeping on an open kitchen shelf rather than behind a cupboard door.

Each mug is made of 100% stoneware, a dense ceramic that holds heat well. Care is simple: the mugs go in the dishwasher and the microwave, and they can go in the oven too, so there is no hand washing and no decanting when reheating a drink that has gone cold.
