Description
Our Jolly bowls come as a set of two stoneware bowls for the Christmas table, and the charm is that they do not match. One wears a bold candy stripe that sweeps from the rim down to the foot; the other carries a parade of nutcracker soldiers in tall hats and crowns, standing shoulder to shoulder all the way round. Look inside and each has its own small motif at the base: a wrapped sweet in the striped bowl and a walnut in the nutcracker bowl. Each bowl is 14cm across and 7.5cm tall and holds 500ml, a proper cereal or soup bowl size rather than a little dip dish.
That 500ml is the useful part. It is enough for porridge on Christmas morning, a helping of soup or trifle, or a heap of nuts and sweets passed round while the film is on. The stoneware is suitable for food, so the pair works hard at the table as well as looking festive on it. Set them side by side on a sideboard for guests to help themselves, keep one for crisps and one for chocolates on a cosy evening in, or give them as a gift to someone who loves dressing the house for December.
Both bowls are 100% stoneware, a dense, sturdy material that feels solid in the hand. Each has a fine coloured line around the rim and a contrasting foot ring that ties its pattern together. Care is specific: they are not for the dishwasher, the microwave or the oven, so wash them by hand and do any heating in a pan before you serve. For styling, their multicoloured colourway sits happily on a wooden tray or board with a sprig of fir and a few pine cones, with the stripes and the nutcrackers together. The styling props shown are not included.
