Description

This small stoneware plate in cream is 16cm across and 3cm tall, with a ring of little hearts and dots running round the rim and a fine line tracing the very edge. At 16cm it is a side plate size rather than a dinner plate, the right scale for a slice of cake, a couple of biscuits, a mince pie or a piece of buttered toast. It weighs 0.26KG, light enough to hand round the table with ease.

We see it first as a Christmas plate: set one at each place for pudding, pass them round with the stollen, or keep a few by the kettle for mince pies and gingerbread through December. The pattern is hearts rather than holly, though, so it need not go back in the box with the decorations in January. Through the rest of the year it earns its place at breakfast, on a tray for afternoon tea, or at a birthday tea in the kitchen, and it is just as happy holding a pastry beside your morning coffee.

The plate is 100% stoneware, finished with decal decoration and handpainted details. Stoneware is fired at high temperatures, which gives it a dense, sturdy body that copes well with being used day after day.
